Foreclosure Help for Chicago-Area Homeowners

October 18, 2011

Metro Chicago real estate owners who are struggling to pay their mortgages can call a special hotline Tuesday and Wednesday to get help.

Fannie Mae has set up a special number for Chicago-area homeowners to call to receive foreclosure prevention assistance.

Your loan does not even need to be owned by this lending institution to receive assistance: If your home’s mortgage is backed by Fannie Mae, you will be connected with a housing counselor at one of the group’s mortgage help centers.

If your loan is not guaranteed by Fannie Mae, you will be sent to a local housing counseling agency for assistance.

The number is (866) 989-6931.

Hours are Tuesday, October 18 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday, October 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Want to know your options before you call? Visit Fannie Mae’s site KnowYourOptions.com for details.

Want help in person? Fannie Mae is hosting two borrower outreach programs in Chicago on Saturday, October 29 at:

*The Illinois Institute of Technology, Hermann Hall Conference Center, 3241 South Federal St., Chicago

*North Side College Prep High School, 5501 N. Kedzie Ave., Chicago

For more information on those foreclosure assistance events, email Borrower_Outreach@FannieMae.com or call (855) 349-2293.
