K. Hovnanian Homes wins Gold Key Award for Glen Ellyn home

Chicagoland Real Estate Forum congratulates K. Hovnanian Homes for winning a Gold Key Award in the category of “Interior Design: Single-Family Merchandising 3,401 sq. ft. and over” for 22w101 Busch Rd., Glen Ellyn.

The design goals were two-fold in this home. Glenrise Grove is a redevelopment within an existing neighborhood of mid-century ranch and newer homes on the north side of Glen Ellyn. We wanted to evoke traditional colonial, craftsman, and federal architecture themes that would complement the community and Glen Ellyn as a whole. Second, regardless of price-point, home buyers today are motivated by a strong value proposition as compared to other new home communities as well as local resales. Efficient home designs with selective use of volume space and high-quality materials throughout the home helped us achieve that value.

Design choices and constraints were market-driven, because we are not subject to any kind of architectural or appearance review through DuPage County or Glen Elyn.

Lot-fit and price-point were two design challenges. Glenrise Grove is a 34-lot community with various lot types and sizes. Our four floor plans accommodate various build-able widths and structural options on lots ranging from 70-100′ wide. Our two largest plans are 56′ wide and include tandem 3-car garages, allowing us to fit a 3-car garage on most available lots. In addition, in this in-fill location, we compete with private semi-custom and custom builders. We developed homes and standard features that meet or exceed buyer expectations at this price point. In the right locations, such as Glen Ellyn, production builders can successfully bring luxury homes to the marketplace.

The Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago Key Awards were created in 1972 to recognize excellence in housing design, architecture, interior merchandising, remodeling and landscaping. It has since evolved into one of the premier housing programs in the country.
