Montreux Homes wins Crystal Key Award for Hinsdale Home

November 16, 2011

Chicagoland Real Estate Forum congratulates Montreux Homes/Fergon Architects for winning a Crystal Key Model Home Award for 803 N. Lincoln Avenue, Hinsdale.

This custom home was first designed and presented to Montreux Homes (Fergon) as a traditional turn-of-the-century farmhouse. My clients asked my team to redesign the home and create a unique but somewhat traditional home. So we added a ‘lighthouse’ to the northwest corner elevation that rose from the ground and culminated with a widows walk and traditional lighthouse cap. By adding sheet metal details to the overhang porch and galvanized sheet metal gutters and downspouts, we tied in a more contemporary theme.

The exterior also features salvaged mooring posts, which were used to anchor the rear yard patio and antique boat port hole window, which was used in the side-entrance door.

The interior of the home features reclaimed rustic white oak flooring, sliding barn doors to separate rooms, and reclaimed white oak beam and ceiling details. First-floor entertaining space is less traditional with open-flowing rooms tying in the access points of the wrap-around exterior porch.

The master suite features 16′-high ceilings and custom glass and travertine tile throughout the master bath. A unique blend of specific details have been incorporated throughout the home, right down to the custom weather vane that has personal meaning to the homeowners.

The Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago Key Awards were created in 1972 to recognize excellence in housing design, architecture, interior merchandising, remodeling and landscaping. It has since evolved into one of the premier housing programs in the country.
