Chicago’s Daley Plaza About to Glow

November 22, 2011

Thursday might be Thanksgiving, but Wednesday marks the official start of the winter holiday season in Chicago with the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Daley Plaza.

Chicago Real Estate Forum wrote about the 55-foot evergreen, which belonged to the Spangler family of Western Springs, that will now stand tall as the City of Chicago’s 2011 Christmas Tree.

The Spanglers will be the ones to flip the switch and light the tree at Daley Plaza during the 98th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Wednesday, November 23. There will be musical performances at 4:30 p.m., and the ceremony will start at 5 p.m.

The celebration, sponsored with the city by Underwriters Laboratories, will also feature a piece of Chicago real estate that just so happens to belong to Santa Claus himself. Visitors can get a free photo with Santa while getting holiday safety tips from UL.
