Celebrity Chicago Real Estate Alert

December 05, 2011

Jennifer Hudson has found a great deal on Chicago real estate.

Jennifer's new Burr Ridge abode, pending closing, of course.

The award-winning singer and actress — and native Chicagoan — has a contract pending on a 12,000-square-foot mansion in the prestigious community of Highland Fields in Burr Ridge.

The home, which has been on and off the market since 2006, was originally priced at $4.2 million. Though we won’t now the final sale price until the closing, which is scheduled for next month, we do know that the current asking price is $2.795 million, more than 33 percent off the original price.

Seems the sellers are taking a beating: According to Chicago Magazine, they bought the lot in 2004 from a developer for $435,000 and then had the home custom built.

Last month, foreclosure proceedings were started on mortgages totaling $2.4 million against the house, according to the Cook County Recorder of Deeds.

The home has six bedrooms, six full baths and two half baths, five fireplaces, two kitchens, Brazilian cherry floors, radiant-heated floors, a floating staircase, laundry rooms on the first and second floors and two garages that house six cars.

The walk-out lower level includes an exercise room, a theater, a library, a game room, one of the bedrooms and the home’s second kitchen. The third floor houses a “bonus” room that measures 30 x 15.

The 2009 tax bill was $37,412.22.

Chicago's own Jennifer Hudson

Hudson, 30, will make new roots in her hometown with husband, David Otunga, and their son, David Daniel.

The Grammy- and Oscar-award winner is in two upcoming movies, The Three Stooges and Winnie, about Winnie Mandela.

She recently helped open another piece of Chicago real estate: The Weight Watchers Jennifer Hudson Center in Hyde Park.
