A Greek piece of Chicago real estate celebrates its official grand opening this Saturday.

The National Hellenic Museum, located at 333 S. Halsted Street in the heart of Chicago’s famed Greektown, is the only major museum in the country that’s dedicated to Green history, culture and arts past and present.

While it opened its doors to the pubic last month, Saturday, December 10 marks the official grand opening of the $20 million museum that took two years to complete.

Museum hours are Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed Monday.

Admission is $10 for adults; $8 for seniors and students; $7 for children ages 3-12. Museum members and children under three are free.

*2 p.m. Holiday Festival at Brainerd Park, free

The Grayslake Antique Market is setting up shop at the Grayslake County Fairgrounds, 1060 E. Peterson Road in Grayslake on Saturday, December 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, December 11 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be thousands of antiques, collectibles, furnitures, art and more. Admission is $6, which is good for both days, and parking is free. Great place to think stocking stuffers.

If you’re going to shop, do it in a holiday atmosphere. Shhh…opping in Highland Park is an event starting at 3 p.m. each day this weekend throughout downtown Highland Park’s central business district.

There will be live reindeer, sleigh rides, live music, ice sculptures, Nutcracker dancers and roasted chestnuts, plus in-store specials, receptions and raffles, with such prizes as a $500 shopping spree and Chicago Blackhawks tickets.
