Get Ready to Send Gifts from Home for Free

December 13, 2011

Did you miss Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday? Still have shopping to do and don’t want to leave your Chicago real estate?

Then you haven’t missed anything yet.

Friday, December 16 is Free Shipping Day, a day when a majority of online retailers will offer free shipping on gifts with delivery by Christmas Eve.

Last year’s third annual Free Shipping Day, held on December 17, 2010, resulted in close to $1 billion in online sales, making it the third largest online spending day in U.S. history.

Over 1,750 merchants participated last year; as of Tuesday, 2141 retailers had signed up to participate this year.

“Merchants now see Free Shipping Day as a must-participate event, which is why retailers are signing up so early for 2011,” said founder Luke Knowles. “It’s a money-saving measure for consumers and a way to extend the online holiday shopping season for retailers. Everyone benefits.”

Free Shipping Day merchants guarantee that your items will be delivered by Dec. 24. Many retailers will be offering discounts on products as well.

While no offers or coupon codes will be unveiled until Dec. 16, you can check out to see which merchants are participating.

And make sure you check the fine print. Some retailers require a minimum order for the free shipping, others may be providing the free delivery on only certain items.

Also check the return policy; some merchants charge a shipping or restocking fee with returned merchandise.

Then get your holiday gift list ready, dress in your best pajamas, and go shop!
