Things to do In, Out and Beyond

January 06, 2012

Want to stay at home this weekend and watch the tube? If you are a Chicago-area DirecTV subscriber, you get to watch 13 SHOWTIME channels for free through January 6-8.

If you are Dish Network customer, it looks like January 27-30 is the time for you to stay inside your Chicago real estate, as that’s the weekend you get a free preview of HBO and Cinemax.

Want to get off your bum and exercise it too? You can work out for free at any one of the 71 Chicago Park District Fitness Centers from now through Sunday, January 9. Register for a membership and you’ll get a free Nike gym bag, while they last.

Looking to outfit your home this weekend? Check out the Zurko Antiques & Collectibles Show, where you can find antique furniture, art, linens, treasures and more at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 1060 E. Peterson Rd. in Grayslake on Saturday, Jan. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 8 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $6; kids 12 and under are free.

Want some eye candy this weekend? There is still time to go to Winter Wonderfest at Navy Pier before it ends at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 8. Attractions and rides all cost money, but admission into the fest is free and there’s a lot to see.

This is also the last weekend to soak in the Winter Flower and Train Show at the Lincoln Park Conservatory, 2391 N. Stockton, Chicago. The event ends at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

If you are looking for some culture after the weekend ends, we have tips for that too.

Chicago Shedd Aquarium, 1200 S. Lake Shore Drive, is starting off the new year with 11 days of free admission for Illinois residents. General admission will be free and tickets to special exhibits will be discounted on January 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 25, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31.

The Art Institute of Chicago is providing Free Winter Weekdays, in which Illinois residents can get into the Art Institute, 111 South Michigan Avenue, for free each weekday from now through February 10.

Have a great weekend and beyond!
