Remember the Weather Last February?

February 01, 2012

I can’t believe it’s already February. I’m still getting used to writing 2012 on the mortgage payment check for my Chicago real estate.

Alas, a new month means a plethora of new observances and platforms, some worthwhile, some just worth reading about.

February is National Get to Know an Independent Real Estate Broker Month, so get going!

Some of the worthwhile: February happens to be National Get To Know an Independent Real Estate Broker Month.

This month is also National Care About Your Indoor Air Month, a subject near and dear to me. Look for posts on this subject later this month.

It’s also Pull Your Sofa off the Wall Month, an observance dedicated to encouraging homeowners to freshen up their decor by moving around the furniture. Look for a post on this in the near future too.

Here are the best of the rest. February is:

*Adopt A Rescued Rabbit Month, National Pet Dental Health Month and National Bird Feeding Month

*American History Month, African-American History Month, National Women’s History Month, Deaf History Month, Irish-American Heritage Month and Greek-American Heritage Month

*Wise Health Care Consumer Month

*American Heart Month, AMD/Low Vision Awareness Month, National Dental Month, National Children’s Dental Health Month, National Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Awareness Month, National Multiple Sclerosis Education and Awareness Month

*Spiritual Wellness Month and National Laugh-Friendly Month

*National Parent Leadership Month and National Senior Independence Month

*National Snack Food Month, Bake for Family Fun Month, Chocolate Lover’s Month, Great American Pies Month and National Cherry Pie Month

*National Grapefruit Month, National Hot Breakfast Month, Sweet Potato Month, National Sweet Potato Month and National Canned Food Month

*Return Shopping Carts to the Supermarket Month

*Library Lovers Month, National Craft Month

*National Boost-Your-Self-Esteem Month, International Boost Self-Esteem Month, Human Relations Month and International Expect Success Month

*National Time Management Month

*Worldwide Renaissance of the Heart Month, National Weddings Month, Creative Romance Month, Relationship Wellness Month and National Mend A Broken Heart Month

February is Spunky Old Broads Month and February 1 is Spunky Old Broads Day. You go, girls!

February 2 is Groundhog Day. Remember that great movie “Groundhog Day” that starred Chicago native Bill Murray? It was filmed 20 years ago by Chicago native Harold Ramis right here in northwest suburban Woodstock.

The town is hosting a bevvy of events this week. Check out woodstockgroundhog.org.

Finally, this month is Plant the Seeds of Greatness Month. With this mild winter, some Chicagoans might be considering planting some seeds to get the garden going sooner than later. OK, maybe not, but still: As we enjoy near-record high temperatures this winter, let’s not forget how one year ago this week, Chicago was in the center of a massive snowstorm that froze the city in its tracks.

Now, while weather is interesting, Plant the Seeds of Greatness Month has more to do with enriching your life than your garden. Take some time this month to implement changes that will make a difference for your community, your neighbors and yourself. Start small and build up, even if that just means . . . pulling your sofa off the wall.

Have a great month!
