Financial Problem Recognition

February 02, 2012

Assess and Lock Down your Financial ProblemsDo you sometimes look at your credit card bill or bank statement and wonder, “where did it all go?” If you find yourself having that reaction more than once, it’s time to buckle down and start budgeting. The idea of budgeting can be intimidating, but there are many simple options that can be a great place to start

saving money. The Equifax Finance blog’s new section, Family Money, explores one in its article, “

Give Your Budget a PERK.”

PERK is an acronym for Postpone, Eliminate, Reduce and Keep. It involved you looking over your monthly statement and categorizing each expenditure into one of the four categories. Mortgage payment is a keeper, while the gym membership that you haven’t had the time to use in months is one you can eliminate. Similarly, if you look at purchases you have made with a critical eye, you can find that in the future you can either postpone them or reduce the quantity you pay for.

With this plan for expenditure self-assessment, you will be amazed how much you save. Simply being aware of what you spend each month will help you make smarter decisions, and looking at the statement at regular monthly intervals to re-assess will allow you to find more money to

pay off debt, save and invest.
