Lots to do Around Chicago While Your Home Saves Energy

March 30, 2012

On Saturday, March 31 at 8:30 p.m., my Chicago real estate will go dark in honor of Earth Hour. Will yours? And, more importantly, what will you do to acknowledge conservation after the hour?

Then, for all those moments this weekend when you are not honoring that global initiative, here are some other events going on around Chicagoland (make sure you turn off your home’s lights before attending any of them):

*Lake County Home Show: Make the connections that can make your home your dream home at this Home Improvement Showcase Expo in the Libertyville Sports Complex, 1950 N. Highway 45, Libertyville, on Friday, March 30 from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, March 31-April 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Find all your home improvement needs under one roof at this free event and enjoy giveaways, food tastings and more.

*Naperville Food Tasting and Cultural Tours: Beginning this Sunday, April 1, the town of Naperville will be hosting guided tours of its historic downtown area. The approximately two-mile, three-hour tour includes seven food tastings, which are included in the ticket price. Tours will be available every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from April through November near the 5th Avenue train station at 11:30 a.m. Click the link to buy a ticket or call Zerve at (800) 979-3370.

*Kids Resale Event: This sale will feature gently used clothes, toys, books and more in the fieldhouse gymnasium of Portage Park, 4100 N. Long Avenue, Chicago, on Saturday, March 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hosted by the Friends of Portage Park, proceeds will benefit improvements to the park.

*Spring Egg-Stravaganza: Soldier Field, 1410 S. Museum Campus Drive, is hosting the largest candy grab in the city and will offer all kinds of entertainment on Saturday, March 31 starting at 9 a.m. The grab will take place on the field at 10 a.m. The event is free, though parking isn’t, and the first 2,000 children will receive a commemorative wooden egg designed by a local Chicago student.

*Chicago Park District Easter Egg Hunts: There are a variety of Easter events this weekend through the Chicago Park District, including:
