The Historic Chicago Bungalow Association (HCBA) is offering exciting and informative seminars for Chicago homeowners in the month of May.

Chicago Bungalows PhotoThe HCBA workshop series presents the Vintage Masonry Repair Workshop on Saturday, May 12 at the Avalon Park Library located at 8148 South Stony Island in Chicago and Saturday, May 26 at the U.S. Heritage located at 3516 North Kostner in Chicago. Both workshops take place from 10 a.m. to noon.

The Vintage Masonry Repair Workshop, presented by Mario Machnicki of Marion Restoration, will cover common masonry deterioration problems, how to identify priority masonry repairs, the best practices for cleaning and repointing, and how to establish a scope of work for rehab projects. This workshop is co-sponsored by the Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago.

The Workshop Series continues in May with Garden Design for Beginners and the Faint of Heart on May 16 at the West Lawn Pubic Library located at 4020 West 63rd  Street in Chicago from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. and on May 22 at the Indian Boundary Park Fieldhouse located at 2500 West Lunt Avenue in Chicago from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

The gardening workshop will educate participants on simple techniques to improve their garden spaces by framing out garden areas, adding show-stopping plants and shrubs, how to improve the look and feel of the soil, and how to help bring garden art to a whole new level. Don’t worry about your new gardening skills costing you an arm and a leg, the workshop focuses on plants that are good for the soil and easy on your pocketbook.

The best part, besides the knowledge these workshops offer, is that all seminars are free!

However, limited spaces are available so RSVP by emailing reservation@chicagobungalow.org or calling (312) 675-0300 x 10.

The HCBA was launched by former Mayor Daley in 2000 as a nonprofit organization designed to foster an appreciation of the Chicago Bungalow as a distinctive housing type, encourage sympathetic rehabilitation of Chicago bungalows, and assist bungalow owners with adapting their homes to current needs, which in turn helps to strengthen Chicago bungalow neighborhoods.
