New HomeSnap App Set to Make a Splash on Real Estate Map

May 11, 2012

While there is yet to be a superhero who can cast an intuitive eye towards a Chicagoland property and instantly gather all the relative information a prospective home buyer would need, a new iPhone app allows users to do just that.

Searching for a HomeLaunched by online real estate broker Sawbuck Realty Inc., the HomeSnap app lets you snap a picture of a home and instantly find out everything you need to know about the property such as:

  • Estimated current value of the home.
  • What the property sold for.
  • When it last sold.
  • Lot size.
  • School district.

If the home is for sale, HomeSnap will bring up the asking price, interior pictures and complete listing details courtesy of real-time data from the Multiple Listing Service.

“We wanted to create something that was different than your normal home search app, including our app,” Sawbuck Realty Inc. co-founder Guy Wolcott said. “We wanted to create a little iconic moment of delight; that it doesn’t feel like it should be possible.”

The app has a built-in camera and uses your phone’s GPS to find and gather all the relevant info on a given property.

For those who are a bit hesitant about walking up to a stranger’s home and snapping pictures, the app provides a stealth mode for real estate creepers that produces the home info you desire from a built-in map.

While it is not news that many eager home buyers start (and often finish) their house hunting online, this new app is a great add-on due to a database of 90 million homes available at the touch of your finger.

The HomeSnap app is available for free on iPhone and will soon be available for Android.
