Let Your Feet Help Chicago’s Homeless

There are plenty of events going on around Chicagoland this weekend, including a race aimed at ending homelessness.

Run Home Chicago is an inaugural run/walk and kids’ dash that benefits local non-profit organizations that serves the homeless.

Hosted by Chicago’s Primo Center for Women & Children, the event takes place at Soldier Field, 1410 S. Museum Campus Drive, Chicago, beginning at 8 a.m. on Sunday, June 10.

The hope is to raise funds for the 87 local organizations that provide homeless Chicagoans with shelter, sustenance and services.

Chicago 13.1 Marathon: The Allstate Life Insurance Chicago 13.1-mile Marathon starts at the South Shore Cultural center, 67th Street and South Shore Drive, Chicago, on Saturday, June 9 at 7 a.m.

Participants are encouraged to donate their athletic shoes to Fleet Feet Sports stores, at packet pickup before the race or just give the shoes off your feet after you cross the finish line and get a free pair of flip flops to get home. All shoes will be donated to Breakthrough, an organization on Chicago’s West Side that helps the homeless.

Here are a bunch of other events this weekend around the Chicago area that will having you running around for sure.

Printer’s Row Lit Fest: Book lovers will relish this two-day affair, which is considered the largest free outdoor literary event in the Midwest, on Saturday and Sunday, June 9-10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Chicago’s historic Printers Row along Dearborn Street from Congress to Polk Streets.

Wells Street Art Festival: One of the city’s largest and most acclaimed fine arts events, this festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, June 9-10 on N. Wells Street, between North Avenue and Division Street in the heart of Chicago’s historic Old Town neighborhood.

Chicago Blues Festival: This 29th annual celebration of sound takes place in Grant Park on Friday and Saturday, June 8-9 from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 10 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Grant Park, 201 E. Randolph Street. Admission is free.

Chicago In-Water Boat Show: This Progressive Insurance Show gives water enthusiasts the chance to check out all things floaty in Lake Michigan at the 31st Street Harbor, 3100 S. Lakeshore Dr., Chicago, on Friday and Saturday, June 8-9 from noon to 8 p.m. and Sunday, June 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $10; kids are free. Park at Soldier Field; shuttle to the show for free.

The Vintage Bazaar: More than 150 vendors will be on hand at the Aragon Ballroom, 1106 W. Lawrence Ave., Chicago, on Sunday, June 10 from noon to 5 p.m., when you can also tour the historic building. Admission is $5; kids 12 and younger are free.

Art on the Plaza: The North Shore Art League is hosting this free juried fine art show at Plaza Del Lago, 1515 Sheridan Road, Wilmette on Saturday, June 9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, June 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

City Wilds Festival: Celebrate Chicago’s backyard biodiversity during this free two-day festival at North Park Village Nature Center, 5801 N. Pulaski Rd., Chicago on Saturday, June 9 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, June 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., when you can learn about native plants and animals.

Rockin’ in the Park at Rosemont: This free outdoor music festival will be held at 5501 Park Place in Rosemont on the new 30,000-square-foot lawn space just west of River Road. The party begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 8 and 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, June 9-10 and will close at the end of the last scheduled performance each day.
