Wanted: Chicago-Area Job Seekers

July 16, 2012

The road to a healthier housing market involves a strong job market, and we seem to be on the right track: The Chicago-area’s unemployment rate for May fell 1.5 points to 8.6 percent.

street sign that says jobs ahead“May offers [a] reason to be cautiously optimistic that our moderate recovery will continue to bring lower unemployment and more jobs,” said Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) Director Jay Rowell.

Despite the drop, however, Illinois’ unemployment rate is still above the national average of 8.2 percent.
