The Weekend Starts Early in Chicago

July 26, 2012

Chicago Real Estate Forum is posting its weekender report a day early this week so that you can be on the alert for something special driving by on Friday, July 27.

The Seinfeld “No Soup For You” Food Truck is coming to Chicago!

If you are familiar with the 1990s show Seinfeld — one of my all-time favorites, even though it took place in New York — then you probably remember The Soup Nazi episode. Well, there’s apparently a truck named after the character.

The Seinfeld “No Soup For You” Truck is on a tour of six cities and will hit Chicago’s North Avenue Beach from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday with free iconic Seinfeld food, treats, giveaways and a chance meet The Soup Nazi himself.

Now there’s something you don’t see every day in the city.

Here are some more normal occurrences going on around Chicagoland this summer weekend:

Taste of Lincoln Avenue: This 29th annual event will feature lots of food, more than 40 musical acts on five stages, arts & crafts vendors (see the next item too) and a kids carnival on Saturday and Sunday, July 28-29 from noon to 10 p.m. on Lincoln Avenue between Fullerton and Wrightwood in Chicago. Proceeds benefit the Wrightwood Neighbors Association, which makes grants to organizations serving the local community.

Lill Street Craft Fair: This 2nd annual juried indie art fair will be held during and adjacent to the Taste of Lincoln Avenue on Saturday and Sunday, July 28-29 from noon to dusk on Lill Street from Lincoln to Halsted in Chicago.

Highwood Festival Days: This 43rd annual event is celebrating the town’s 125th anniversary and will last four days — Thursday, July 26 through Sunday, July 29 — at the Highwood Metra Train Station Parking Lot, Green Bay Road and Highwood Avenue. The Highwood 125th Anniversary Parade steps off at noon on Sunday at the corner of Sheridan Road and Clay Ave.

North Shore Festival of Art at Old Orchard: This three-day, fine art festival features 140 juried artists from across the continent and takes place from Friday, July 27 through Sunday, June 29, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the Old Orchard Shopping Center along Skokie Blvd. between Old Orchard Rd. and Golf Ave. in Skokie.

Gogh Green! Recycled Art Sale: This 24th annual recycled art sale features thousands of preowned art objects at the Art Center Highland Park, 1957 Sheridan Rd., Highland Park, beginning Friday, July 27 and going through Thursday, August 16. Proceeds from the sale support The Art Center’s art school scholarship program.

Garden Buddies Summer Family Event: Explore the summer garden with hands-on projects at the Kilbourn Park Organic Greenhouse, 3501 N. Kilbourn Ave., Chicago, on Saturday, July 28 from 10 a.m. to noon. This event is for kids ages eight and under and costs $10 per child.
