Chicago New Home Builders Succeed With Social Media

Social MediaSay goodbye to the old-school business model, and say hello to social media. According to a Chicago Tribune article, home builders are using Web 2.0 tools to keep their businesses hopping.

Freise Builders, a general contracting and home remodeling business located in Evanston, was started by Joel and Jean-Marie Freise who understand what it takes to survive and thrive in a vicious environment for builders. They amped up their marketing program by designing a top-notch, professionally created website that links to the company’s Facebook page, which updates fans on their projects and industry news.

“Facebook is sort of like the mall,” Levinson said. “You may end up coming home with something, but you didn’t necessarily go to buy something.”

Mitch Levinson, managing partner of Marketing RELEVANCE and publisher of Chicagoland Real Estate Forum, says that Chicago new home builders should not only be posting about their new homes and communities, special incentives and local areas, but should also post tips for home owners and industry trends.

Many builders are using Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, Pinterest and Houzz in their social media programs. Each outlet serves a different purpose when connecting with the potential home buyer. For example, Google+ is great for sharing longer updates, while Pinterest is picture perfect for photo sharing and YouTube is a fun way to post informational videos. Builders should choose the social media outlets that are the right fit for them, and do those well with the help of an outside marketing firm such as Marketing RELEVANCE.

“You hire the right person to plumb your homes or do the electrical work,” he said. “You also need to hire the right person to oversee your social media efforts.”
