Former Mayor’s Former Condo for Sale

August 08, 2012

This is a famous Chicago real estate alert, though the home for sale has a sad story attached.

The Michigan Avenue condo of former Mayor Richard M. Daley and his wife, Maggie, has been listed for sale.

The couple moved into the unit in the Residences at 900, at the intersection of North Michigan Avenue and Walton Street in the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood, just after Daley retired as Da Mayor of Chicago in May of 2011. Sadly, Daley’s beloved Maggie died of cancer six months later, and he moved out of the unit soon after that.

Owned by JMB Realty Corp., a Chicago developer that converted part of the building into residential condos, the asking price on the 24th-floor unit is the same price it was listed for when the Daleys bought it last year: $2.725 million.

The seven-room, 3,479-square-feet unit includes:

*Three bedrooms

*Three full bathrooms and a half bath

*10-foot ceilings

*Four-inch white oak floors

*Floor-to-ceiling windows with fabulous northwest views

*A library

*A gas-starting fireplace

*An in-unit washer and dryer

*An additional storage unit on the same floor

*High-end finishes and state-of-the-art technology

Association fees in the pet friendly building are $2,590 a month, and the 2011 tax bill was $6,669.87.
