Nextdoor social mediaWhen was the last time you updated your Facebook status, pinned your dream home or tweeted your favorite celebrity? The answer is probably sometime today. In a world that is inundated with social media, everyone is connected. But, how many of these people that you are obsessed with online do you really know? Tell the truth, probably not as many as you’d like to think. However, one Internet company is trying to bring the social back to social networking with their new private social network that connects people to others in their neighborhood.

Nextdoor, one of the latest social media platforms, is a forum for neighbors to communicate, build community and share local information. The site is similar to Facebook in that members can share posts, comment and create groups, but it also offers a recommendations page perfect for supporting your local businesses and service providers.

But, not just anyone can join your Chicago new home neighborhood group. Nextdoor verifies everyone’s address by sending a postcard to the home address with a code on it, requesting a call from a listed phone number or by making a onetime 1 cent change to confirm the billing address.

Nextdoor is currently offered for free in more than 3,700 communities across 48 states. To see if your Chicago neighborhood is eligible and to register for your free profile, visit
