Chicago a Top Travel Destination

A recent study from Expedia, the world’s leading online travel agency, reveals that Chicago is now the third most popular travel destination among American travelers. Chicago is ranked in and amongst other popular cities such as Las Vegas, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

It should come as no surprise that Chicago is a top vacation and travel destination. Chicago is the most populated city within the Midwest, and is easily reachable by all areas nationwide. With two airports, the Magnificent Mile, SkyDeck Chicago, Blue Man Group-Chicago,  Art Institute Chicago and much, much more, there is no lack of activities for both first-time visitors and long-time Chicago real estate residents.

Here’s a look at some of the Windy City’s travel trends:

  • More than 42 percent of trips to Chicago are from the Midwest
  • The largest booking months are July and August
  • Fall is another popular time to visit due to fewer crowds and pleasant weather
  • 78 percent of travel into Chicago doesn’t include children
  • 30 percent of hotels booked are located in Magnificent Mile
  • Occupancy rates at hotels citywide remain around 70 percent, but go up significantly during top conferences and festivals
  • 40 percent of travelers booked their trip within 14 days of their travel date
