Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago Hosts Fourth Annual Iron Chef Competition

September 06, 2012

HBAGC eventThe grills were fired up and the competition was fierce at last night’s Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago Iron Chef gathering, where three teams faced off to win the grand prize trophy.

The event, held at the showroom of Fisher & Paykel appliances in Elk Grove Village, brought together a variety of members in the Chicago real estate industry who are involved in home building, remodeling, design, housing finance and many other areas of home construction.

Dave Brady, President of the Remodelers Council at HBAGC said the event offers a great opportunity for networking and gives new members a chance to introduce themselves to the organization.

Each member played a role in the event, whether it was chopping vegetables or plating food in a creative way to impress the judges. And despite having the title of a ‘competition,’ the event was really about teamwork.

Busy schedules don’t always make it easy for members to mingle, but the casual setting and camaraderie created by grilling up tasty dishes provided the perfect atmosphere for networking and introductions.

The chefs’ creations included everything from eggplant parmesan to stuffed mushrooms and coffee rubbed chicken, which were prepped in the Fisher & Paykel display kitchen and then cooked outdoors on a variety of Fisher & Paykel grills.

HBAGC members had an hour and a half to prepare a main entree, side and dessert using a variety of meats, veggies and fruit. It wasn’t easy for the judges to pick just one winner, so accolades were given for best dessert, presentation and overall quality.

Future HBAGC events include a Platinum Mortgage and Coldwell Banker Seminar on October 2, which will provide information on the recent short sale changes that go into effect November 1. Rita Unzner, Executive Officer of the HBAGC, said it is important for the organization to help its members understand how these guidelines will affect them.
