New Apartments Coming to Bucktown

September 30, 2012

chicago new apartmentsA few weeks ago, we reported that Bucktown is getting some new Chicago real estate in the form of condos and some big-name stores. Now it looks as if a new apartment complex may soon be coming to the area.

Chicago-based MCZ Development Corp., which was a major condominium developer during the housing boom, has plans to shift toward apartment building with a 50-unit project in Bucktown.

If the project is approved, MCZ will build two 25-unit apartment buildings at 1711-1744 N. Winnebago St., which is about a block northwest of the intersection of Damen, North and Milwaukee avenues.

MCZ was hit hard after the residential bubble burst, so the Bucktown project could be the perfect opportunity to give the company another start. However, before MCZ can begin building, the company must secure a zoning change, though the company is optimistic that securing this permit will not be an issue.

The Bucktown apartments would include the following.

  • Two one-bedroom units with 1,000 square feet
  • 32 two-bedroom units with 1,400 square feet
  • 16 three bedroom units with 1,600 square feet

Rents will be in the $1,800-$2,600 price range.

Other recent real estate developments in Bucktown include retail spaces acquired by Jenel Managment Corp, and DAVIDsTEA and clothing store Scotch & Soda are slated to open soon.
