Chicago is a Top Spot to Invest in Rental Property

October 06, 2012

invest in cook county real estateRealtor.com recently released a study on some of the best U.S. cities to invest in rental property and Chicago came in at number two on the list.

So why exactly is it a good idea to invest in Cook county real estate right now?

One reason is because it’s always a good choice to invest in a city that has several top universities, and the Realtor.com list was created as a follow-up to the recent U.S. News & World Report rankings of top colleges. The top Chicago schools with the largest student bodies include Northwestern University, University of Chicago and the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Combine a large student population with high average rents and low median mortgage bills, and it makes sense why real estate investors would be interested in Chicago. Some realtors suggest that if parents can find a good deal, it might be cheaper to buy and invest in a condo than to pay for traditional college housing.

The other U.S. cities on the Realtor.com list include Boston (which came in at number one), Pittsburgh, Princeton, New Jersey and Atlanta.
