The Connection Between Football and Chicago Real Estate

October 20, 2012

chicago real estate and the nflNow that football season is well underway, you may be wondering what exactly the NFL has to do with Chicago real estate? Well, according to a a study by Century 21, there is a correlation between a city’s real estate market and its NFL team.

When an NFL team has a winning season, the real estate market tends to fare better in that NFL team’s city. Century 21 obtained this data by evaluating team success, population growth and home value appreciation and attendance rates. Four out of the five cities that had losing NFL teams in 2010 saw an increase in home sale prices when the team went to a winning record.

After the Packers Super Bowl win in 2010, Green Bay saw a population growth of 1.7 percent in the following year. And when the Colts went from a 10-6 record in 2010 to a 2-14 record in 2011, Indianapolis area home sales decreased by 19.8 percent.

Lastly, eight out of the nine cities with teams that had attendance rates of 100 percent or more in the past year saw an increase in average home sale prices.

So, what do you think of this correlation?
