Energy Efficient Chicago Homes are in High Demand

November 11, 2012

energy-efficient chicago new homesAccording to a study by House Designers, there has been a 10 percent growth rate in the building and design of ENERGY STAR® home plans. Thousands of homebuilders are now featuring special ‘green’ home plans and cost-friendly energy efficient Chicago homes, which will continue to be in high demand in 2013. The House Designers is the Internet’s main provider of single-family home designs, and they collaborate with ENERGY STAR® and homebuilders on green building innovations.

The Environmental Protection Agency has found that ENERGY STAR® homes are 30 percent more efficient than the Model Energy Code (MEC) that has previously been used in new homes. All ENERGY STAR® homes must be reviewed by a Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) before being certified in order to ensure that the homes meet required standards for energy efficiency.

Notable certified features of ENERGY STAR® homes include high performance windows and doors, properly installed insulation, tight construction and duct systems, efficient heating and cooling systems and ENERGY STAR® qualified lighting and appliances.

Recently, ENERGY STAR® and The House Designers worked together as part of the annual Green House Plan competition; they created a state-of-the-art Evergreen Cottage house plan. The Cottage House features active and passive energy-saving features such as a 20-square-foot grass roof style system, a wind generator and solar panels.

Do you own an ENERGY STAR® home? If not, do you plan on purchasing one in the near future?
