Chicago New Townhome Construction is Rising

December 05, 2012

chicago new townhomesIf you’re not ready for a single family home, but tired of living in your current rental unit, you may want to consider purchasing a townhome. According to the National Association of Home Builders, townhome construction has greatly increased in the past few months with a total of 17,000 starts in the second quarter of 2012 versus 11,000 starts for the same time last year.

One of the reasons townhomes are increasing in popularity is because of their updated floor plan offerings. Townhomes built in previous years only had an entry hall, garage and one bedroom on the first floor; a layout conducive to younger couples with no children. Newer townhomes are becoming increasingly family-friendly and are echoing the style of single family homes with the public rooms located on the first floor and three bedrooms on the second floor.

Living in a townhome community can also alleviate some of the frustrations of dealing with expensive home maintenance. Many townhome communities have homeowner association fees that will cover lawn care, landscaping and snow, leaf and waste removal.

Chicago new townhomes are currently for sale in a variety of communities including D.R. Horton’s Cambridge Lakes and the Briarcliffe townhomes from M/I Homes.
