Montreux Homes Wins Silver Key Award for a Custom Home

December 07, 2012

Chicago Real Estate Forum and Marketing RELEVANCE congratulate for winning a Silver in for a .

Jeff and Liza Gianares and their two young boys came to Montreux Homes with a blank piece of land and said “design us a home that is unlike any other in Hinsdale. We do not want the norm and definitely do not want a Coastal style home.”

So with that small but very descriptive outline I began to design a transitional French country home that would blend stone by necessity feel with stucco and galvanized sheet metal dormers as well as fabricated rivets which would give the exterior of the home an edge. I then decided that the interior space should be based upon an “open floor plan” which would allow for more usable daily space and allowing for an abundance of natural light, thus making such a small space (3,200 square feet over three floors) feel larger and less constrained. This open concept mixed large commercial-grade windows off the rear of the home which enable more natural light to enter the home. The stone from the exterior walls flows into the interior of the home to enhance the formal dining and gathering room. One-hundred-year-old reclaimed barn wood flooring and beams are uniquely blended with a custom stainless steel kitchen hood, white quartz countertops and euro style cabinets.

Given the size of the property and my clients need to to have a master suite, two additional bedroom suites and a full size laundry all contained within 1,100 square feet, we needed to be very creative with code and use of space. By creating a floating stairway through the center of the home which was free of risers and stringers we used less width of space throughout all three floors which we used on the second floor for additional height and closet space. We then used space at the top of the second floor landing since ceiling height was not critical to allow for the laundry room.

This unique and exciting home blends multiple building materials from the exterior through the interior to create a timeless but yet transitional home which my clients family can enjoy for years to come.
