Montreux Homes Wins Gold Key Award for Excellence in Remodeling

December 08, 2012

Chicago Real Estate Forum and Marketing RELEVANCE congratulate for winning a Gold for their .

Montreaux Homes stated:

My clients resided at the current location for nine years with their five children and outgrew the 3,100 square-foot two-story home that was built in 1970. My clients were not in a position to demolish the home and decided that a renovation of the current home would best suit their needs.

My clients left the design and layouts to the Montreux Team but stressed that the home should be open and spacious for the kids to play. Given the size of the family and their large immediate family the new design was based upon a large open kitchen which flowed into the family room. Limiting interior walls and creating an open space to entertain was critical for my clients and the final floor plan was beyond their expectations.

The two major moving design elements of the new home consisted of eliminating the original second floor, original roof line and expanding the depth of the second floor. In order to complete this project, we needed to hire a structural engineer to see if the current foundation could structurally take on the new second and third floor. With this information in hand we then needed to add a new foundation to the rear of the home which spanned the entire width of the rear elevation.

The old and new foundation then needed to be tied in such a way that the old basement was not affected by the new foundation. Most important was that the existing foundation was properly shored to eliminate the risk of collapse during the dig and pour of the new foundation. All these items were critical and successfully obtained in order to add the 3,500 square-feet needed to obtain the best design for my clients.

The original home could have easily been demolished and started from new but given the families history in this neighborhood and the years spent in the original home, their decision to renovate and create from within was an easy choice. The final outcome is a seamless creative blending of the old home to the new. The mix of modern elements with old world charm and the attention to detail throughout this home is evident from room to room.
