Remodeling is expected to make a huge comeback in 2013, so if tearing down walls or revamping your kitchen is on your New Year’s resolution list, be sure to take note of these trends.

  • Kitchen cabinets. Clean and contemporary is in, and so are modern, sleek cabinets that eliminate wasted space and clutter.
  • Hardwood floors. More builders are offering hardwood flooring as a customizable option, and finished and engineered wood flooring is going to be huge in 2013.
  • Texture and Sparkle. Metallic decor was the number one interior design trend of 2012, and it looks as if glitz and glam will carry over into the new year. Many remodelers are adding sparkle and gloss to light fixtures and backsplashes.
  • Calacatta marble. In the New Year, Calacatta marble will be popular in all types of baths, from contemporary to traditional.
  • Quartz composite countertops. There’s nothing wrong with granite countertops, but quartz is even more durable and is low-maintenance.
  • Glass backsplashes. Solid, glass panel backsplashes are becoming more popular, since they provide a super clean, polished look.
  • Simple sinks. Deep, single-bowl sinks are replacing the double-sinks that were once a popular choice among home builders.
  • Green and sustainable design. A number one priority for remodelers and home builders in the new year is taking advantage of environmentally friendly and energy-efficient options. If you’re going to spend lots of money remodeling, why not save even more by using “green” materials such as recycled flooring or LED lighting.

So, if you’re planning on remodeling your Chicago new homes this year, why not get started by incorporating one of these trends into your favorite room?
