Friendly NeighborsIf you’ve been searching for a piece of DuPage County real estate, we’ve got some good news.

Downers Grove, Ill. was named one of the 15 friendliest towns in the United States, according to Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a San Francisco-based social network that connects neighborhoods and homeowners. The network rated 500 small metro areas with populations between 5,500 and 150,000 to determine which were the friendliest.

The rankings were based on the following items:

  • Percentage of college graduates
  • Crime rate
  • Charitable giving
  • Percentage of owner-occupied homes

Downers Grove came in at number eight on the list, while Sammamish, Wash. nabbed the top spot.

The Chicago suburb offers more than 140 community events and festivals each year, has a largely college educated population and also boasts an 80 percent homeownership rate.

According to Crain’s Business News, Downers Grove also has a low foreclosure rate as business growth and new development is on the rise. Several major corporations, such as Pepperidge Farm and DeVry, Inc are located in Downers Grove, which makes for a successful local economy.

The current median sales price for a home in Downer’s Grove is $264,500, while the average listing price is $355,214, according to Trulia.
