Straight from the Heart: Valentine’s Day Decor

February 09, 2013

valentines collageValentine’s Day decor usually conjures up images of doilies or heart shaped window stickers, but if you want to add some pizzazz to your Chicago real estate this February, try these other options.

  • Heart-shaped wreaths. Valentine’s Day wreaths are trending big-time on Pinterest, and if you’re crafty, there are so many opportunities for fun and innovation. One popular design idea is creating a heart-shaped wreath with a spring theme. These are shaped like a heart, but include spring or pastel colors instead of the traditional Valentine’s red and pinks. That way, if you decide to leave your wreath hanging long after Valentine’s Day, no one will judge you. To create your wreath, you can use materials such as fresh or artificial roses, vintage doilies or trendy fabrics.
  • Votives. You can have so much fun with this design option. Fill votives with Valentines’ colored candles, then add other accents, such as candy or silver and gold beads.
  • Heart-shaped chalkboards. We recently featured an article on the chalkboard home decor trend, so why not incorporate this trend into your home for Valentine’s Day?
  • Burlap Valentine’s garland. This is an affordable craft that can add a vintage feel to any room. Decorate your pieces of burlap as you see fit, with either red painted hearts or Valentine’s Day messages. String together with twine and hang in your favorite room.

Many of these decor items can be reused, so in addition to adding some flair to your home, you’ll also be saving money in the long run.
