Ring in the Chinese New Year with Year of the Snake Decor

February 17, 2013

Snake Skin Frame DecorWant to add a unique twist to your home while also celebrating the Chinese New Year? 2013 is the year of the snake, and some Chinese legends believe a snake in the house can actually be a good omen because it means your family will not go hungry.

If your home could use a good omen and some new accessories, check out these snakeskin home decor items.

  • Snakeskin box. A great accessory for storing jewelry or for eliminating some clutter on an end table. You can find these types of boxes in vintage, leather or even chrome styles.
  • Place mats and table settings. If you have a kitchen with lots of earthy hues, switching out your standard plates for snake-skinned style ones can give your dining area a fresh update.
  • Ottoman. Update your standard leather ottoman or foot stool with a snake inspired theme.
  • Urns or vases. This is a great way to incorporate the trend in a way that is subtle. A distressed tan snakeskin urn or vase makes use of the pattern without being too bold.

Adding snakeskin decor to your home doesn’t have to be frightening. Using the right neutral shades and adding smaller accessories can give your home a refreshing mid-winter update.
