NAHB Improving Housing Markets List Includes All 50 States

February 20, 2013

homes with sold signThis month, homebuilders across the country can celebrate the fact that all 50 states are now represented on the National Association of Home Builders list of improving housing markets.

“The fact that all 50 states now have at least one metro on the improving list shows that the housing recovery has substantial momentum and continues to expand from one market to the next,” said 2013 NAHB Chairman Rick Judson.

The great news is that not only was Chicago featured on the list, but Bloomington, Peoria, Rockford and Springfield are in the top housing markets, too.

Considering that the list of improving metros only consisted of 12 cities when it first began in September 2011, the fact that all 50 states are now represented is a fairly large milestone.

For those curious as to how the rankings are established, the Improving Markets Index rates housing markets based on home appreciation rates from Freddie Mac, single-family housing permit growth according to the U.S. Census Bureau and employment growth based on numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Though the housing market has yet to reach pre-recession levels, it’s comforting to know that each state is beginning to see healthier housing patterns.
