Illinois Foreclosure Prevention Network Celebrates Half-Million Milestone

February 20, 2013

homeowner assistance photoGovernor Quinn recently announced that the Illinois Foreclosure Prevention Network (IFPN) has assisted more than a half-million people via its free resources program since it was launched in February 2012.

The IFPN aims to connect struggling homeowners with the knowledge, resources and help they need to save their homes, and evaluates each homeowner’s situation on a case-by-case basis.

Here’s a further breakdown of the amount of people who have been assisted by the IFPN since last year:

  • More than 446,000 homeowners have searched the IFPN website for information.
  • More than 44,500 homeowners took advantage of the IFPN counseling services.
  • More than 60,700 people have used the IFPN help hotlines.
  • More than 3,400 have attended an IFPN workshop.
  • More than 6,300 homeowners benefited from mortgage payment assistance.

According to the IFPN, struggling homeowners who receive counseling and assistance are 50 percent more likely to obtain a loan modification and 67 percent less likely to default on their homes for a second time. Once homeowners have defaulted on their mortgage a first time, they often go back into default within 18 months of a loan modification, so it is important that struggling homeowners have access to mortgage and foreclosure education.
