IBS recap photo 1Chicago area home builders and real estate professionals recently gathered at Parksite in Bolingbrook at the monthly South Suburban Home Builders Association (SSHBA) meeting. This event recapped the biggest news from the 2013 International Builders’ Show, and allowed professionals to share their opinions on the future of the housing market as well as the latest home product and building trends.

Participants came from a variety of real estate related backgrounds and included: Mitch Levinson, Managing Partner mRELEVANCE LLC; Tom Stephani, President of Custom Construction Concepts Inc.; Mike Dote, Branch Manager at Platinum Home Mortgage and Dick Greenwood, VP/Director at Coldwell Banker Builder Marketing.

Tom Stephani and Dick Greenwood shared the latest trends from the IBS trade show floor, which ranged from new products to popular floor plans. According to Stephani, multigenerational housing is the most in-demand building trend, as buyers are becoming increasingly interested in purchasing homes that have enough space for recent grads and aging parents. As far as new product trends are concerned, technology is all the rage, especially in kitchen and bath areas. Some of the hottest products to hit the IBS showroom floor were faucets that turn on with the wave of a hand and shower heads with built-in speakers.

Mitch Levinson reminded the crowd how important it is to embrace mobile marketing in 2013, and shared advice on how home builders can increase their sales and buyer experience via mobile versions of their websites.

Lastly, Mike Dote shared advice on how to successfully obtain a mortgage in spite of stricter lending standards.

Participants at this week’s IBS recap shared one trait in common—optimism that builders and home buyers can look forward to a successful 2013.
