Influential American Architect’s Home For Sale
If you’re familiar with the history of American architecture, or perhaps just curious about it, you should check out the recently listed home at 223 North Euclid Avenue in Oak Park. This address boasts the spectacular Furbeck house, which was designed by famous architect and interior designer Frank Lloyd Wright.
Wright is well-known in the world of architects for his very influential Prairie style along with his work as a writer, educator and designer. The Furbeck home was designed by Wright and constructed in 1897 for electrical contractor George Furbeck, from whom it retains its name. Its style has been said to bridge the gap between Wright’s earlier work and his Prairie style.
This home features five bedrooms and three baths, and best of all, it retains most of its original appearance. Much of the transitional work by Wright features Queen Anne style elements, with elements of his later style such as rectilinear massing, casement windows and Wright’s hip roof. Currently this home is priced at $949,000.
On November 18, 2002, the Furbeck House was declared a local Oak Park Landmark and it, along with its residential neighborhood, are listed the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. This specific area is frequently referred to as the Frank Lloyd Wright/Prairie School of Architecture Historic District.
