Green Trends to Look For in Chicago New Homes

April 21, 2013

Chicago New Homes Going GreenWith more homebuyers seeking energy efficient upgrades and environmentally-friendly building for their residences, builders and designers are seeking out more ways to meet these demands.

The blog Greener Ideal shares their expectations for green and energy efficient home technology now and in the future:

  • Energy – The increasing efficiency of green technologies means that the homes of the future will be self-reliant and manage to store the energy required to power them via a mixture of solar power and fuel cells.
  • Appliances – Homes and the electrical appliances will be ever greener and use increasingly less electricity. This will mean that even today’s energy efficient items will look like energy guzzlers when they are compared to the new ones in the next decade or so.
  • Insulation – Cavity wall insulation will begin to change the way we keep our homes warm and prevent heat escaping from them. This will boost Chicago home energy ratings and make sure that there is less and less power used.
  • Affordability – Many green technologies are available now, but they just cost too much for us to actually implement. As technology advances, these items will become more and more affordable.
