Illinois Homeowners Affected By Severe Weather Receive Recovery Aid

May 17, 2013

Illinois flooding reliefFollowing the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Agency’s announcement that federal disaster aid is now available to the State of Illinois, it has ordered federal aid to enhance recovery efforts made by state and local governments in areas affected by the severe storms, straight-line winds and flooding that occurred from April 16 to May 5, 2013. This federal funding action made by the President is available to Illinois homeowners  in Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Fulton, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, LaSalle, McHenry and Will counties who have been stricken by this adverse natural incident.

Assistance given by this aid may include grants for short-term housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to help restore uninsured property losses and other programs to aid individuals and business owners in recovery from the malicious effects of the disaster. Statewide federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures that need to be taken.

The Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery in the harmed areas has been named W. Michael Moore. He has stated that further appropriations may be made if requested by the state at a later date if the request is warranted by the results of damage assessments.
