What Will Buyers Be Looking For In 2015?

2015 Home Buyers

What is the dream home of 2015? The National Association of Home Builders conducted a survey to predict what consumers will want their homes to look like. Predicting these trends is beneficial for homebuilders to ensure their success in catering to their buyers wants and needs.

The estimated size of the average home in 2015 is expected to reach 2,152 square feet. Unsurprisingly, the two rooms most likely to be included are the great room and a walk-in closet in the master bedroom, shortly followed by the laundry room, first floor master bedroom and two-car garage. The rooms least likely to be included are the sunroom and media room/bonus room, right behind the living room, dining room and mudroom.

These changes observed in this 2015 estimate show that homebuyers are making an effort to use their space more effectively. These tendencies are perhaps the effect of the recent dip in the economy. When the average buyer is earning an income that is lower than in the past, they must ensure they get the most out of what the space they are able to purchase. This leads to minimizing of rooms that are used sparingly, and maximizing of those that are found to be useful or important to daily life.

This information is crucial for home builders to take into account. By incorporating these estimates into their home designs, builders can appeal to their customers upfront.  These builders will be more likely to increase sales than ones who didn’t adjust their plans to these statistics.
