Celebrate National Homeownership Month

National Homeownership Month

June is National Homeownership Month, and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) wants to help everyone achieve their version of the American dream. The NAHB knows that owning your own home provides you with more than just shelter for your family or a place to keep your most valued treasures. For generations of Americans, owning your own home means owning your future.

One of the primary lessons that we learned from the housing crisis, and now through the beginning stages of recovery, is that the first responsibility of homeownership is being educated. As a current or potential future homeowner, it is important to recognize how large a responsibility owning a home is.

There are multiple aspects to being a responsible, educated homeowner. You must understand and consistently check your credit report and credit score. You should be fully aware of the different loan options that are available to you, and seek help from a loan counselor if you have questions. And, let’s face it; we all have questions about home loans and mortgages!

There is an abundance of resources available to homeowners to help educate them, including real estate professionals, credit counseling services and government programs. During National Homeownership Month, take the time to make sure that you are going to be a responsible, well-educated homeowner by visiting www.NAHB.org.
