Independence Day Celebrations Light up the Windy City Skyline

Chicago Fourth of July CelebrationsIf you’ve never experienced Fourth of July in Chicago, you’ve been missing out. The Windy City is home to some the nation’s best celebrations of the red, white and blue that will have long-time residents and visitors seeing sparks.

  • Glen Ellyn will host a day of fun beginning with the Freedom Four® Four-Mile Run at 8 a.m at the Glenbard West Football Field. The day continues with the their annual Fourth of July parade beginning at Glenbard West High School at noon. Afterwards, stick around for the afternoon festivities at Lake Ellyn Park; these will include moonwalks, inflatables, carnival games, live music, dancing, face painting and food. Finally, at dusk, Glen Ellyn will light up the skyline to celebrate America’s 237th birthday.
  • Lake Forest residents are encouraged to attend a festival and fireworks celebration featuring food, a beer garden, live music, kids activities and a fireworks display. This event will be held at Deerpath Park beginning at 3 p.m.
  • Skokie Park District will be hosting their Fourth of July parade at noon, which features marching bands, tumblers, live animals, drill teams, clowns, vintage automobiles and more. The parade starts at Oakton Community College on Skokie Blvd. north to Oakton Park. At 5:00 p.m. the fun moves to Niles West High School, where there will be food, drinks and live bands until dusk. The 3-D Fireworks Fest begins at dark, with the first 10,000 patrons receiving a free pair of 3-D glasses!
  • Do you have talent? Oak Lawn will be hosting a Star Spangled Fourth of July celebration with Oak Lawn’s Got Talent, a treasure hunt, obstacle course, carnival games, pony rides, inflatables, bingo, crafts, concessions, entertainment and more at Centennial Park starting at 11 a.m.
  • Festivities at Cantigny Park in Wheaton will include the opportunity to help paint a 20-foot mural, Declaration of Independence signing, kids activities, a magic show and performance by The Navy Band Great Lakes.
  • Step right up for fun with carnival games, inflatables, pony and train rides, a petting zoo, good food and live entertainment from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sunset Woods Park in Highland Park.
  • Enjoy $2 fares for all riders at the Fox River Trolley Museum as part of their Red, White and Blue Bargain Day.
  • Celebrate the history of America at the Chicago History Museum from 10 a.m. to noon with patriotic musical performances, a reading of the Declaration of Independence and a children’s parade led by the world’s tallest Uncle Sam.
  • What would Independence Day be without good old fashioned barbecue? The Naperville Ribfest at Knoch Park from July 3 through 7 will feature a BBQ contest, two live music stages, special events, carnival rides, inflatables, circus tricks, magic shows, face painting, petting zoos and fireworks.
  • On July 3 and 4, you are invited to spend the day at Navy Pier enjoying good food and entertainment. The real fun, however, starts after dusk when you’ll enjoy one of the area’s most spectacular fireworks shows, which can be seen from atop the Ferris Wheel or from the waters of Lake Michigan.
