NAHB Offers Resources to Victims of Tornadoes

NAHB Offers helping hand for VictimsFollowing the tornadoes and storms that ripped through much of Illinois earlier this week, both Chicago real estate professionals and residents should be aware that the NAHB has a number of resources to help with rebuilding. Everything from first steps following a disaster, large or small, to how to rebuild, is available to you online or by getting in touch with your local HBA.

The resources offered by NAHB start with ways to keep consumers safe by avoiding unscrupulous contractors following a disaster. There are also PDF guides that are perfect to print for use or distribution now or for your disaster preparedness kit in case the tornadoes didn’t affect you this time. From there, a full slate of links to government assistance and information on disaster recovery from FEMA, the Red Cross and the Small Business Administration are also available.

In addition, local home builders associations are working with groups like the Salvation Army and the Red Cross directly to get donations where they are needed most. Both groups have made it easy to give: the Salvation Army has a dedicated website for donations and you can donate to the Red Cross online or by texting REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10 from your cell phone. If you want to get more involved, you can visit the websites of these organizations or call your local branches to find out the best way to get involved either by donating your time or money.
