Enjoy Chicago Holiday Festivities Starting this Weekend

November 22, 2013

Holiday around Chicago new homesYou may be busy getting everything in your Chicago new home ready for Thanksgiving next week, but you need to carve out some time for a few amazing holiday events happening just before Turkey Day!

First of all, the stretch of Michigan Avenue between Wacker Drive and Oak Street, known as the Magnificent Mile, turns into a winter wonderland this Saturday. The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival sees hotels and shops adorned with more than a million lights on over 200 trees, and special events fill the day. There will be a parade down Michigan Avenue, entertainers and celebrities all along the mile, a giant mural to which you can add your own personal touch and much more. The best part is that all of the festivities are free!

Next week, the holiday magic continues on Tuesday, November 26, where you can come and enjoy a very special lighting of the majestic Christmas tree in Daley Plaza. This Christmas tree lighting will be the hundredth time that a giant tree has decorated the corner of Washington and Dearborn, and provided a little holiday magic for Chicago real estate owners and residents, both young and old, rich and poor. The celebration starts at 5 p.m. and the tree will be lit at 6 p.m. The tree itself is 57 feet tall and was donated by the Moore Family in South Holland, IL, who will join Mayor Emanuel and Santa Claus at the tree lighting on Nov. 26.

With all of this before Thanksgiving and the start of Hanukkah, we look forward to an exciting December, stuffed with even more holiday cheer. Let us know in the comments below what other holiday events are happening this and next week that you are looking forward to!
