Meyer Homes Wins Crystalline Key Award for Energy-Efficient Home

December 07, 2013

Meyer HomesChicago Real Estate Forum and Marketing RELEVANCE congratulate Meyer Homes, Inc. for winning a prestigious Crystalline Key Award in the High Energy Efficiency Custom Home category for the home built on Asbury Road in Northbrook. The Key Awards are the premier awards in the Chicago new home construction industry.

From the outside, you may never know that this home is one of the most highly-rated energy-efficient new homes in Northbrook. The HERS rating of 50, 20 points better than what is needed to achieve the highest ENERGY STAR rating, is in the top five percent of all homes in the Midwest. The projected energy cost savings per year for this custom home is $3,228.

Construction on this custom home started with a complete teardown and rebuild. The new home fits into the lovely neighborhood, and the beautiful exterior belies a gorgeous interior with many unexpected, entertaining details. The nine-and-a-half foot ceilings make the home feel large and inviting, and the dining, living and kitchen areas have stunning trim and design features that have been highlighted on international design websites and blogs. Special play areas that appeal to both the young and old include a custom home theater, workout room and plenty more.

Energy-efficient features were built-in by Meyer Homes at no significant additional cost. Achieving this tremendous HERS rating started with high efficiency HVAC systems, windows and doors. There was extra attention paid to the high-integrity building details such as insulated headers and the most energy-efficient ERVs on the market. Heat in the winter and air conditioning in the summer are maximized by the spray foam installation that was used throughout the entire home. Using practical energy-efficient building knowledge refined over the past seven years as an Energy Star Partner, Meyer Homes knows how to eliminate the smallest leaks to help add long-term savings, in-home comfort, durability and resale value.  An additional, forward thinking energy design feature is the planning of a 220-volt car charger in the garage that is ready to accommodate any future vehicle.
