Chicago Cited as One of the Top Buyers’ Markets

March 21, 2014

home for saleA new study by the economists and real estate market experts at Zillow places Chicago as one of the top buyers’ markets for the upcoming spring real estate season. While the Illinois Association of Realtors reports home prices rising month after month, there’s still a lot of negotiating power in buyers’ hands. According to the experts, this means sellers may need to be prepared to accept an offer below their asking price, or to wait longer for the perfect buyer to come along.

Chicago was cited as number four in the top 10 Buyers’ Markets, following Cleveland, Philadelphia and Tampa. Rounding out the list were Pittsburg, Cincinnati, New York, Detroit, Baltimore and Saint Louis.

There are lots of ways to stand out in this competitive market, chief of which may be to realistically set your sale price. Make sure that you study the market and hire a Realtor® to make sure your property will appeal to Chicago home buyers. A Realtor® can provide the guidance you need for a competitive listing – whether that means enhanced curb appeal or kitchen or bath upgrades to impress buyers or setting the price just right to attract the most attention. Homes that stand out can sell in as a little as a week or before they’re even put on the Multiple Listing Service if they have the right marketing and pricing.

Buyer or seller, now’s the time to get into the market!
