Chicago has recently been named the 7th most globally integrated city in the world according to management consulting firm A.T. Kearney’s latest Global Cities Index. Five North American cities made the list, including New York (1), Los Angeles (6), Washington (10) and Toronto (13). According to the ginormous strategic consulting firm, the annual index examines a comprehensive list of 84 cities on every continent, measuring how globally engaged they are across 26 metrics in five dimensions: business activity, human capital, information exchange, cultural experience, and political engagement.

Over the last several years, Chicago has ranked in the top ten, with its strongest showing in 2010 when the Windy City was ranked the 6th most globally integrated city. It appears that Chicago has played it safe, maintaining a solid position over the last few years, and not making any major changes in position. Chicago certainly has its challenges, but it’s safe to say that our fair city is not only economically and culturally significant in the United States, but globally.
