Found Your Perfect Home? Keep These Tips in Mind for Moving

As we all know, the entire buying and moving process is stressful, and while you and your belongings are being moved around and changed, it’s easy to lose track of your plans and your budget. To stay on track, consider these tips that were recently shared on the Equifax Finance Blog Twitter account, @EFXFinanceBlog:

Declutter – this tip is relevant all of the time, so there’s no reason to wait until you find that perfect new home to declutter your current one. Cutting down on excess items means less to box, less to wrap and a smaller truck, all of which can save you time and money. Before you move, try to get rid of the things you really don’t need. Not only will that save you during the move, you could even make a little money if you have items you could sell online or at a yard sale. If you need to offload things faster, you can always donate them to Goodwill and take the tax deduction.

Don’t pay for boxes – another way of going green that can also save you money is to recycle boxes from work and ask for boxes at places like grocery stories, liquor stores or anywhere else you shop. Free boxes will save you big compared to buying them at a packing or mailing store.

Ask your employer for reimbursements if you are moving for work – If you are moving because you are taking a new job, you might be able to get your move reimbursed. Be sure to ask your employer or human resources specialist if moving costs are paid for by the company.
