Brooklyn Bowl Coming to the West Loop, But Where’s the Hotel?

Plans for a new Fulton Market hotel and entertainment complex have gotten a serious haircut. Chicago-based DRW Holdings originally planned for a 17 story hotel with a three-story, 51,274 square foot Brooklyn Bowl at an area between Wayman and Fulton streets on the north and south and between Green and Peoria streets to the east and west. But in a recently filed zoning application, that hotel has disappeared into thin air. According to the application, new plans at 832-856 W. Fulton Market call for a 60,000 square feet complex that includes bowling lanes, a stage, a restaurant and 18,000 square feet of ground floor retail, all designed by OKW Architects. The sudden plan change doesn’t necessarily mean we’ve seen the last of the hotel — but with area residents and businesses fighting some big new developments, the battle for a 17 floor hotel may have been futile.

Interestingly enough, the new bowling alley isn’t the only Brooklyn-based business coming to the West Loop in the near future. A new rock climbing facility dubbed Brooklyn Boulders is slated to open this fall. The West Loop will soon be getting a bit of Brooklyn and a bit of Hollywood in its very near future.
