Naperville Ranks No. 9 on the 10 Best Cities for College Grads List

Downtown NapervilleAfter the graduation caps have been tossed in the air, recent college graduates now begin the daunting task of starting their career. According to Livability.com, Naperville, Illinois ranks No. 9 on its list of “10 Best Cities for New College Grads.” The list was created by using factors that would appeal to college graduates, including the number of 25- to 34-year-olds, number of available jobs, popular jobs and top employers.

With an unemployment rate of only five-and-a-half percent among 25- to 34-year-olds, recent graduates have a great chance of finding a job in technology, firms, energy companies, retailers and factories. Some of the top employers in Naperville include Alcatel-Lucent, Nicor Gas and BP. More than 66 percent of 25- to 34-year-olds hold a bachelor’s degree or higher, making this city well educated.

Blending the small-town charm with big-city amenities, Naperville is the perfect location for those who prefer a suburban environment. Just 30 miles west of Chicago, city amenities are also an easy access. Finding an affordable home won’t be difficult with a quarter of residential properties being rentals, with most of these rentals costing less than 30 percent of an average resident’s annual income.

Located along the DuPage River, many residents can be seen exercising, playing sports or just relaxing in one of the many community parks. For a night out, downtown Naperville includes the Theater District, which is home to the North Central College theater program, and more than 260 restaurants including the Spanish- themed Meson Sabika and the award-winning Café Buonaro’s Italian restaurant.

The population of 25- to 34-year-olds is more than 13,000, making Naperville a thriving city for young adults. With its small-town feel, close location to the city and the many job opportunities available, Naperville is one of the best cities for any recent college graduate!
