In addition to approving Chicago’s first tower from New York’s Robert A.M. Stern Architects, last week the Chicago Plan Commission also green-lighted a plan from developer Akara Partners to build new apartments on Milwaukee Avenue. Designed by Chicago’s bKL Architecture, the new five story building will replace an industrial facility at 830 N Milwaukee Ave. with 47 residential units, 3,000 square feet of ground floor retail space and 24 parking spaces. Located at the busy intersection of Milwaukee and Elston, the building’s design takes light pollution into consideration and angles the units’ windows just enough to filter out the light emitted from vehicles coming from both busy arteries. In addition to its angular exterior, the building will sport a brushed pewter and bronze front. Developers have been stepping up their game on Milwaukee Avenue lately, and although this project is no where near the dual towers planned for Logan Square, it’ll certainly fit in quite nicely with some of the nicely designed projects for the booming corridor.
